Allow showing of only unread articles in High Volume (as you can in Slow)
I was surprised to find there's no read/unread button in High Volume, although there is one in Slow Feeds. I'm a minimalist and don't want to see anything I've already read :)
Consider signing up for Slow Feeds 5 Beta to test the implementation: http://zoziapps.ch/slow-feeds-5-public-beta/

I understand the philosophy behind the High Volume category. Maybe you're right, but at least, please do increase the color contrast between read and unread items!

The illusion thing is interesting, never thought of it.
The problem is, while I understand the idea behind it, it doesn't work for me. I end up opening the high volume tab, reading a few, and then when too many high volatile feeds that are "read" still show up I switch to another app like Reeder (to read more).
This is just my experience, though. I do not claim it's shared by other users, so I'm not asking that you MUST IMPLEMENT THIS OR I WILL GIVE YOU ONE STAR. It's just a thought. :)

How would an "unread-only" filter in High Volume feeds improve the convenience in _other_ RSS clients?

This is a fair point, but as you currently have no non-iOS equivalent app, reading the feeds (which are syncing from other services) on a different device becomes even less convenient, rather than more.

The reason why this button is missing in High Volume is that I want to destroy the illusion that High Volume feeds are manageable in any sane way. As soon as you have the feeling you could process this list, you will unconsciously feel obligated to. Which would be exactly what this app is NOT about.
